Sticks and stones… April 11, 2007

Remember the old children’s saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?” Well, it seems that in both the blogsphere and ‘real’ world that is not quite true.

In case you are not familiar with Kathy Sierra and the discussion among bloggers about the need for a code of conduct, then go over and read this article in the New York Times. It will get you up to date. And, for a far more detailed look at this story, check out this post.

If you have not followed the other story regarding Don Imus and his comments on his radio station, read this article.

Now, I am not suggesting that mean-spirited or threatening words are okay. Not at all. I am simply making the observation that this simple children’s phrase doesn’t seem to be true with most people. I guess that other well-worn phrase, “The pen is mightier than the sword,” is more true now than it has ever been.
