Listen and learn from others December 2, 2006

Yes, you can learn from other people. Too often I.T. people assume they know everything there is to know about their department or area of expertise. The truth is, we can always benefit from another set of eyes and another perspective.

This week I ran into a person that was unable to listen to others, much less learn from them. You should never be quick to dismiss what people outside of your area say about your work or the work of your department. If you don’t dismiss it, you just might learn something and stumble upon a great opportunity for improvement.

Now, go out and solicit constructive criticism from people outside your area or department. It wil be good for you and your organization.
